The Alicante airport is El Altet International Airport. The airport is only 12 km from the city centre. Located between Alicante and Elche, it can be reached via the A7 and the N332 roads. It is one of the largest airports in Spain and has direct links with 14 destinations in Spain, 59 in the European Union and 12 destinations outside the EU, with flights to a total of 20 different countries. Within Spain, El Altet Airport has direct flights to Asturias, Barcelona, Bilbao, Ibiza, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, San Sebastian, Santander, Santiago de Compostela,Seville, Tenerife North and South and Zaragoza and international destinations with direct flights to and from Alicante include Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Vienna, Brussels, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Paris, Amsterdam, Dublin,Reykjavik, Oslo, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Manchester, Moscow, Stockholm, Geneva, Monastir,Oran and Bogota, amongst others.

The famous fiesta of Fogueres de Sant Joan ( or Fogatas de San Juan) is hold between the 20th and 24th of June. These are the Alicante’s main fiestas and they have been declared an event of International Tourist Interest.The ancestral tradition of burning useless objects with the arrival of the summer solstice around the San Juan Bautista Festival, led to festivals featuring colour, gunpowder and fire from 1928 onwards in which the whole city takes part. Streets are closed and the city centre practically comes to a standstill for 5 days as it is taken over by the party spirit. You must assist to this event!!

From the Madrid Airport take the “Metro” to the Chamartín train station. There are trains every day at 9:05, 12:05, 14:05, 16:05, 18:05 and 19:45. The train takes 4 hours and costs around 37,00 €. You can buy your train ticket at the Renfe (railway) office located between arrival halls 1 and 2 at the International Arrival Terminal at Madrid Airport.
